Let’s reverse this up - AND my 2008 summer movie ratings
Posted by The *Angriest* Pharmacist as --Not Pharmacy--, Stupid People, Work Sucks
Hey all. I have a question. How many times have you heard the following?
“I can’t take the generic. It just doesn’t work for me. Switch it back to the name brand…”
or
“The generic gives me a headache. I have to have all brand name meds…”
I’d bet we’ve all heard these on a weekly basis, if not many times a day.
I got to thinking today. How many times have you heard, “Don’t give me that brand name one, it doesn’t work!” — Sure, we’ve heard cost-cutters tell us to not dispense the brand if a generic is available because the brand is much more expensive, but I’ve never heard someone say anything about a brand name “not working” while a generic “works great” or the brand name “gives me a headache.”
I was just thinking….maybe I’m the one that’s crazy…

i absolutely adored knocked up. without a doubt the funniest movie of the year.
i am counting down the days til harry potter though
It was great. I could have done without the “miracle of birth” scene…:-)
In response to your brand/generic rant. I used to think the same thing about people and never complaining about brand name but always the generic. After thinking about it for a while if they were on the brand medication and it caused -insert problem here- they would be switched to a different medication before a generic came out. However, yes, patient’s who whine about generics annoy me.
OMG, Transformers was AWESOME, one of the best action movies I have ever seen. I agree A

I take a medication that recently became available as a generic. I happily switched to the generic (it’s a cheaper copay!). Within a few days, I had hives. I often felt a weird crawly feeling on my skin, like there were bugs on me. The hives came and went sporadically over the next few months as I tried and tried to figure out what was causing them.
I finally put 2 and 2 together and stopped taking the generic. No more hives. No more crawly feeling.
Now I get to worry about what my fuqing pharmacist thinks of me when I say I want the brand name? Screw that! The generic pill is at least TWICE as big as the name brand pill. Are you going to tell me that all that extra filler is totally benign? Obviously it isn’t.
I didn’t even suspect the generic for MONTHS. I would MUCH rather pay the lower copay instead of paying more than twice the amount.
Maybe some people are making that crap up, but some of us aren’t.
No pharmacist would ever argue that. The ingredients that bind the tablet together are called excipients. The excipients can (and usually are) different from brand to generic. Some are very allergic to these and can take one brand and cannot take another (in terms of the generics that have multiple manufacturers).
If you explained that to him rather than just saying, “I want the brand name” he might not give you that stink eye. Unless you did, he thinks you are just being shallow and not believing/trusting him.
