Today was a red flag day…

Yo, I went out on the beach today…it was a red flag day. For those that don’t know, on the beach they use a system of flags to denote what the water safety is like. Green is nice and calm. Yellow means the water can be a little choppy. Red means that it is hazardous and little children/weak swimmers should not be in the water. Two red flags mean the beach is closed to the public because it is so hazardous. Purple means that marine pests are present like jellyfish or sharks. Ohh how I pray for a purple flag day…I want to catch a jellyfish in a jar - or bag a shark with my bare hands…I hear Shark Steaks are really healthy and filled with Omacor (aka Lovaza)…:-)

Anyway - today was red…boy was is the right call. You get in the water and the current carried you fifty yards down from where you got in - not out - but DOWN. The waves were fun as hell. I got tossed around like Poseidon’s bitch. I nearly drowned like 10 times. I guess I had it comin’.

I ended up way drunker than I wanted to be by 2pm and slept from 3:30-6pm–WHOA. I woke up to “Dinner’s ready” though…SCORE!

Tonite the powers-that-be rented “Freedom Writers.” It was like a freaking clone of “Dangerous Minds.” Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great story. It’s downright moving. Hillary Swank does an excellent job of portraying the very much real character of Erin Gruwell. But, I’m fucking sick of seeing it. It’s that same played-out racially charged movie where the students start out hating each other and overcome adversity to become a singular unit striving for the ultimate goal of education, a diploma, and a feeling of self worth. Blah, Blah, Blah…

Hollywood wants us to believe that these stories are going on every day all across the nation, but I just don’t believe it. I want to, but I don’t. It must be one of the most difficult things in the world to teach those that do not want an education - those that refuse to even recognize the fact that they MIGHT need an education down the road. I’m gonna go hug a teacher…
