Funniest. Message. Ever.
Posted by The *Angriest* Pharmacist as Doctors, Education, True Story
I got a REDONKULOUS message today left on my voice mail. I couldn’t believe it. I had to listen to it twice. You’ve GOT to read this. This is EXACTLY what it sounded like. Note: The (…) typed below represent actual PAUSES in the message.
Hello. This is Dr. Houston. I’m calling in a prescription for…uhh… Angela Edwards from myself, Dr. Houston. It’s for Amoxicillin 500mg 30 of them taken po TID, and this is Dr. Houston. I also want to call in a prescription for Angie Edwards for…uhh…uhh… Promethazine with Codeine…one teaspoonful po every 3 to 4 hours. Give her…uhh…4 ounces. And this is Dr. Houston. So once again that is for Amoxil 500mg po every 8 hours and promethazine with codeine every 4 to 6 hours. This is Dr. Houston for Angela Edwards. Her date of birth is January of 1976, the first. Uhh… My name is Dr.Houston. My call back number is 555-5555 and my DEA number is AE111-1119. This is Dr. Houston. Thanks.
Holy shit. Wow. He said his name 7 times. He’s sure proud of this name of his. I could understand that if his name was something cool like Dr. Sledgehammer or Dr. Whoopass. Anyway, everything was out of order. He gave me different directions on both prescriptions when he repeated them (Granted that TID is the same as q8h). He even said the ‘DASH’ in the DEA number (there’s not really a dash in DEA numbers, it’s NOT a phone number). I thought for a second it might’ve been a fake call or something - but no one calls in antibiotics and promethazine on fake calls. If it woulda been a farse, it would’ve been 10/650’s an Xanax. I know a doctor I’ll never go to now…
Here’s how the call should’ve sound for those of you reading along (or not in pharmacy and not seeing any problems with the call). First, he should KNOW what he’s going to prescribe a priori… Second, he should call like this:
Hello. This is Dr. Texas Houston. I’m calling in a prescription for Angela Edwards. Date of Birth January 1st, 1976. Prescription is for Amoxicillin 500mg po TID #30 and Promethazine with Codeine - one teaspoonful by mouth every 4 to 6 hours as needed - 4 ounces. My office number is 555-555-5555 and my DEA number is AE1111119. Thank you.
And that, my friends, is how you do it. 2 minutes versus 20 seconds…and the 20 second version is easier to transcribe. The first version needed translation…:-)
But, listen again, TAP—he said it exactly the same way he would have WRITTEN it! He believed he had to speak his name in order to SIGN his name. But, yes, he also thought that if he didn’t repeat his name, that he might run out of tape. We should report him to the Office of the Secretary of the Department of Redundancy Department Secretary’s Office.
It’s a fake. Or, the doc is wasted. And, nobody needs to say “po” or “by mouth” unless it’s plain prometh.
Yeah, but promethazine? That shit makes me drowsy as hell…And codeine? Everyone knows that hydroco is 15 times as potent at hitting the opiate receptors!
Totally a fake. We get fakes for prometh w/ codeine all the time. Apparently, it is mixed with sprite to make something called “Purple Drank”. Usually the quantity we see is something more along the lines of 16 oz, but still, my first impulse would be to say fake.
We get codeine addicts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_drank
Anyway, you angry types make my day.
I have a lot of problems too with fake phenergan codeine rx. Sometimes they call in both an antibiotic and the phenergan codeine and when they come to pick up, they only want the cough syrup. Another thing that bugs me is PSE purchase. They come in as a group each of them wanting claritin d 24 hrs, and they hop around from store to store, requesting the same thing. They ought to make PSE a prescription drug.
You’re full of shit. Explain to me how someone making methamphetamine in a kitchen extracts loratadine from pseudoephedrine? That’s what they want…the PSE - Somehow, I doubt the Claritin is something you’d want injected IV.
As far as calling in two and picking up one - most pharmacies should have a steadfast rule against that. I tell the person no. If they insist, I tell them I’m calling the doctor. That usually shuts them up. If it progresses, the doctor will say cancel both of them. Either way, both or neither. That’s how my ship runs anyway…
Check this rant out anyway:

Hey, ask the meth folks how they do it. Claritin D is currently their drug of choice.
Here it’s still Wal-Act/(insert your store brand of Actifed) for the meth-heads. Call the cops on everyone who buys it, no normal people buy the stuff. Oh and what about the 17 year old kids wanting to buy two boxes of Coricidin HBP? Give me a break, you are not getting it from me.
Oh and what did you do with this RX message if you thought it was legit?
Usually if the doctor says any sig or medical terms it’s not fake. Yes people can read the rx and figure it out somewhat…but they don’t really know…unless they use to work in the medical field. We have had a goon call in an rx on the voicemail for HIMSELF and leave HIS number… after he said he was Dr.such and such. Morons.
