Headhunters

Posted by The *Angriest* Pharmacist as Disgusting, Drug Companies, Hate Mail, Me being a dick, Rude, True Story, Work Sucks

I got the message below from what I like to call a headhunter. What do they do all day? They call us, hardworking pharmacists in the trenches, at work. They bother us incessantly….non stop. Feigning interested in our day. Telling us about “exciting opportunities” in “various healthcare field” with “immediately openings available in our area of the country.”

That’s right. They call me at my job, who currently pays my bills, and asks me if I want to quit and work for any company that will take me. They will promise you the world. Can they deliver? They don’t know. They don’t care. They likely read off a script just like every other telemarketer in America.

I understand as well as anybody that it takes a ton of different people to make the world go around. For every job, there is a worker willing to take that job at that wage. It may not be what I would want to do, or what I could earn, but the job is there nonetheless.

But, how in the fuck do these people make their place in the world? I just don’t get it! I could not imagine a pharmacist, regardless of their level of disgruntlement, saying, “Yeah, I’ll quit this bitch for whatever job you can find me with XYZ company.” I’ve never heard of someone doing it. So, I’ve never heard of a success story. To make matters worse, they bother us at our already hectic jobs. This pisses us off and REALLY makes me want to jump ship!

What makes this specific commenter all the more asinine is that I had a run in with her a while back. The Pharmacy Alliance had an oft-used email listserv prior to their meeting in Texas. She chimed in with this same recruitment chum. I didn’t reply in a swear laden hate-speech. I didn’t even tell her to go fuck herself. I just replied with, “Whoa.”

Now, at work, I like to fuck with these people. The way I see it is that my time is money. I’m sure my time is worth more than there’s, but I’m a huge dick and I like to get a laugh at other people’s expense. I often ask them for all the details and not pay a lick of attention. Then I ask them again. After that I’ll ask them random questions they have no business knowing until they get the hint. “Ma’am, why can’t tigecycline be used for bactermia?” or “Why is Zyvox contraindicated in people on MAOIs?” or “What’s the max daily dose of Oxycodone in a properly titrated person” or my personal favorite, “Why can’t enteric coated aspirin be used to treat a headache?” If they still don’t get the hint, I ask them, “Why does Mickey Mouse have big ears?” — That’s usually the fuck off question that gets em.

Bonus points for answering the real questions in the comments.

1. ??? My understanding was that it was indicated for HAP and resulting bacteremia.
2. Zyvox itself is a mild-moderate MAO inhibitor
3. No max dose per-say… though there is no tolerance development in constipation or respiratory depression, so as long as you can keep them breathing then no max.
4. EC delays absorption 45mins-hour… so no drug till and hour after you take it for a headache

All correct - but there is a reason for number 1.

Tigecycline is distributed to tissues at higher concentrations. It doesn’t stay in the blood to treat the bacteremia.

After I get done telling them I’m not interested for now, the headhunters ask that perennial question, “Do you know of anybody that is looking for [a new job]?” The balls of these people! After interrupting my work flow, they also want me to help them do their job!

I do think historically, though. I am always polite to these people, since the sky could fall and I might need them, and the one I am pissy at could be the first one I might call some day. But not for the time being.

head hunters……what a pack of time-wasting bastards!
give them a REAL job somebody, PLEASE!!

There are a multitude of studies out there regarding the use of tigecycline for bacteremia/sepsis with very favorable results. We use it in our ICUs when other options fail. So, what do you know that we don’t? :)

What everyone above you has said.

1. it is bacteriostatic and tends to concentrate in tissues

1. Its bacteriostatic… you don’t use bacteriostatic agents in systemic infections.
2. Linezolide has MAOI activity
3. There is no max dose to Oxy so long as it is properly titrated… however at very high doses you risk adverse effects like decreased testosterone levels.
4. EC delays absorption… delaying pain relief.
5. Because he is a mouse

Its because Tygacil has a much greater concentration in tissue, than in blood.

Tigecycline, and other glycylcyclines have a very high volume of distribution, and therefore will be many times more concentrated in tissue. Because of this, a much higher dose would be required for bacteremia, than for a cSSSI.

I usually tell them I will not accept anything less than $70 hour with a $30,000 1-year commitmrnt bonus, and all of this must be in writing, with approval from my attorney. It usually gets them off the phone.

#1 to #4 what everone else said

#5 Because when Minnie pulls on them something else gets big.

I’m sympathetic to both sides here. On Sundays and week nights when we’re not over hours, I’m a Pharm Tech. Mon-Thurs, I’m a teleresearcher.

The headhunters are just doing their job. At my teleresearch job, I call 80 numbers per hour and talk to about 30 people per hour. On a good day, one person per hour will make me some cash. Do I really care about what I’m asking these people? No. Do the hundhunters really care about getting you a job? No. However, they’re just doing their jobs.

PS. You’re not getting a laugh at another’s expense. In my experience, the people who I call who fuck with me, make my job easier. They make me laugh when I’m in shitty mood.

At my teleresearch job…
::I read from my script::
Person: Can I ask you a question?
Me: Sure (thinking it’s about the survey)
Person: It hurts when I pee, what should I do?
Me: I think you should see a doctor.
Person: I don’t trust my wife. I think she may have brought something home.
Me: I still think you should see a doctor.

I love those people and I’m sure the headhunters do, too.

5. because wth kind of kids would like him with small ears?

I laugh reading this because headhunters, recruiters, career agents, whatever you want to call us make well over a six figure income. I have 2 degrees and make alot more than you so get off your high horse thinking you are special. We make money off of you standing around counting pills so call us bastards and ponder why we dont get a “real job” all you want but we are not going anywhere. In fact with the aging baby boomers more and more are popping up left and right. Who wouldnt want to work at home in their pj’s for $250,000 a year? I love it and wouldnt trade it for the world :) and yes there are the big billers that make almost double what I do but I am not as aggressive as a sales person. Its scary that you dont have enough brains to know all of this.

1. What the fuck are you talking about?
2. Fuck off, pawn.
