Do unto others…

Posted by The *Angriest* Pharmacist as --Not Pharmacy--, Me being a dick, Stupid People, Traffic, True Story

I’m a fan of the Golden Rule.

Treat others as you wish to be treated.

In certain circumstances, I like to give it a little twist. We’ll call it “The Angriest Twist.”

Do unto others as they do unto you.

Some would call that tit for tat. Others call it reciprocation. I like to use the terms: revenge/vengeance, retaliation, and reward.

Now — before the comments coming rolling in — read the above AGAIN. IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES. I’m not perpetually an asshole…just in certain circumstances.

I bring you this story. I was coming home today, and a red 1980-something Mustang cut me off to turn onto the interstate. It was a decent distance away, and I was headed in the same direction. I was a little perturbed by the situation, but I had no thoughts of retaliation. I had nothing to gain, and I’ve become used to dickhead drivers in my area.

Before we got too far ahead, a huge Ford F250 decided he wanted on the interstate as well. And to think I got cut off. I thought the Ford truck was going to take the front bumper and/or hood off of this little red car. Well, we got to the light and Mr. Red Mustang was super pissed. I saw him flashing his lights, flipping the bird, and I could hear his horn sounding.

It looked like he started to open his door to walk up and “confront” the driver of the F250. I would assume he noticed what I had seen much before he began flashing his lights using his finger liberally — a shotgun displayed in the rear window.

While I didn’t necessarily “do” anything — I did enjoy watching it unfold, which is almost as good as receiving the reward yourself.

I carry a paintball marker under my car seat for just such a reason. Most people can’t distinguish it from any old HK MP5SD from looking at it.

Dear E Wilson,

I am a pharmacist but one of my other hats is National Smallbore Rifle Association Air Rifle/Pistol Youth Tutor.

There is a set tariff of punishments for firearms offences in the UK, I like to let the trainees have a guess at the levels of fines/prison set. But none of them get the top answer to “what’s the worst that’ll happen?” which is “armed police show up and shoot you dead”.

I guess if you’re in the US, a passing citizen may do the same. Read your second sentence again then grow up.

Perhaps, but what you don’t realize is that not only do I play paintball with the area law enforcement and “train” with the local SWAT team (wait, wait, wait, wait, shoot for 7 seconds and get tackled), but I also run seminars for law enforcement offices all over the state on how to recognize and deal with antagonists using paintball markers.

Here in the happy US (or at least, in my state), we can conceal carry small arms, own and carry larger weapons in public and own silencers and automatic weapons (I know several stores rent uzi’s for bachelor parties). Did I mention that we run paintball movement drills in the public parks of various cities? Our standard armnament of choice: http://www.tippmann.com/product_guide/x7.aspx

Obviously, we don’t do this on a whim: there’s paperwork to fill out, and we always try to let the police know we’re coming, because some of them like to join us (one county just got funding to get their officers G36 stylized X7’s above for training).

Happy shooting!

That’s all great and I wish I could do a lot more shooting of all sorts over here*, but I still don’t see how carrying a replica weapon outside of organised activities is likely to do any more than get you shot with a bullet rather than a paintball?

*feel in love with the Glock 17 9mm last time I was over there :)

Also, if you’re interested, my weapon of choice (intended prey: paper @ 10 metres!) :
